We will be liaising with medical students throughout the project and are keen to hear your views on the proposed system. This is why we have set up both a Facebook group and a discussion forum. Any comments made on either of these forums will be fed back to the Project Group and considered when making the final decisions so please use these tools and let us know what you think.
What does this mean for me? The aim is for the proposed changes to take place for the Foundation Programme 2013 intake which means those applying to the Foundation Programme for 2013 of beyond will apply using the new system. However, before we can introduce new selection processes, we must undertake a full-scale parallel recruitment run – or Parallel Recruitment Exercise (PRE) - to ensure the new process is robust.
This means that final year medical students applying for FP 2012 will be asked to participate in a Situational Judgement Test (SJT) pilot in addition to completing the online FPAS application form. The SJT will consist of 30 multiple-choice questions and will replace the current 'white-space questions'. The test will take one hour to complete and is designed to see how you will react in the workplace given different scenarios you are likely to encounter as a Foundation doctor.
For more information visit the Parallel Recruitment Exercise (PRE) section of the website.
If you are applying for FP 2013 or beyond, you will be required to take an SJT as part of your application system and you will be given an Educational Performance Measure (EPM) by your medical school.
